Mel Klinghoffer is the Founder and President of A1HR. Prior to his affiliation with A1HR, he was Chairman of the Board of Payroll Transfers, Inc., Payroll Transfers International, Inc. and numerous other related entities which were professional employment organizations that operated in over 40 states and were headquartered in Tampa, FL from 1989 to 1996.
Mel was the primary force behind the success of Payroll Transfers. Within a 7 year period from 1989 to 1996, the company grew in annualized revenue to over $300 million. When he sold Payroll Transfers and its affiliates, the companies had approximately 18,000 leased employees across the United States. Mel has extensive experience in negotiating labor contracts with client companies and in negotiating benefit programs with insurance carriers. He is known for creating an infrastructure of professional middle managers that are the finest in the industry.
Thomas D. Harrington, Jr.
Vice President & General Counsel
Tom Harrington is the Vice President and General Counsel of A1HR and is responsible for the overall operations of the company as well as the corporation’s legal and regulatory matters. He has an undergraduate degree in accounting from Stetson University and a law degree from Vanderbilt University. His background includes: public accounting, private law practice, Regional Counsel and Vice President of Development for a large regional commercial real estate development company, General Counsel for Payroll Transfers, Inc. and is presently the General Counsel for the MJK family of companies.
Ana B. Alfonso
Ana Alfonso is the Executive Assistant and Corporate Secretary of A1HR’s group of companies and has been with Mr. Klinghoffer and his family of companies since 1991. Prior to her joining Mr. Klinghoffer and his family of companies, she worked as Executive Secretary for Pan-American Life Insurance Company’s Defense Counsel in New Orleans, Louisiana for 10 years.
Vice President of Sales & Marketing
Paul Bernier has been with A1HR since the company’s inception. He holds a Bachelor of Science degree and is a licensed Florida insurance agent. He has over 17 years of Professional Employer Organization industry experience and has consistently been one of the top producers in the industry. Mr. Bernier has an extensive background in Sales & Marketing and works with some of the largest Insurance and PEO brokerage companies in our industry. He is dedicated to providing the best customer service to all of A1HR’s clients.
Director of Human Resources
Cindy Fowler has over 25 years of employment industry experience, 16 of which have been with A1HR. Her areas of expertise are human resources, employee benefits, and retirement plans. She was previously the Benefits Manager for one of the largest employee leasing companies in the industry. Cindy also previously worked with the City of Tampa administering union contracts, personnel policies, procedures and benefits.
Don Tu graduated with Master of Accountancy degree from Stetson University. He has over 20 years of experience in public accounting and private industry. Prior to joining A1HR, Don was the Controller for Corporate Services Group / Tampa Bay Vending, Florida’s largest vending company. While there, he helped the company grow to over $35 million in revenue. Don is committed to providing accurate and timely payroll and financial data.
Director of IT
Mick Murschell has a Bachelor's degree in Computer Science focusing on the development of enterprise application software. He has over 17 years of experience in the Professional Employer Organization industry. He has also developed systems for numerous companies including HRG Travel Management, Aetna, Portrait Innovations, David C Cook, Garda, New Belgium Brewing Company, and the U.S. Olympic Committee

Michael Smiling has over 30 years of payroll experience with 20+ years in the PEO industry. Michael attends Strayer University where he majors in Business Management with a minor in Human Resources. Michael’s tremendous payroll experience gives him the ability to supervise and streamline every aspect of creating an efficient payroll department. His main priority is to ensure payrolls are processed timely, accurately, and delivered to A1HR’s customers by a team of dedicated professionals.

Larissa Colvin has been dedicated to Customer Service for more than twenty years and understands the importance of personalized service, onsite client relations and the value of a long term relationship with all clients. Larissa has been in the PEO Industry for nine years. A1HR’s dedication to our clients’ needs ensures that A1HR remains the industry leader in customer service.
Scott A. Johnson
Director of Risk and Safety
After receiving his Bachelor’s degree from Troy State University, Scott Johnson began his career in Risk Management while doing his post graduate work and has amassed over 25 years of Risk Management and Safety experience. 20 years of Mr. Johnson's experience are specific to the Professional Employer industry. He has completed the General Lines Agents course and is a professional member of the American Society of Safety Engineers, The Risk and Insurance Management Society, The National Fire Protection Association, Veterans of Safety International and the Human Factors and Ergonomics Society. He is a certified trainer for the Crisis Prevention Institute, an OSHA Authorized Outreach Trainer and the published author of several articles and papers on Safety and Risk Management. Mr. Johnson is also a frequent speaker at numerous labor industry functions.
